Old Great North Road |
Accessible from Settlers Road (on the way to St. Albans) on the northern side of the Hawkesbury River at Wisemans Ferry. This historic area offers great evidence of convict life, road construction work and the role of convict labour in the development of NSW. To walk the full extent of the Old Great North Road takes several days however, there are a number of short walks around the Wisemans Ferry area that offer great views of the Hawkesbury River and the surrounding valleys. |
These walks range from gentle 1 hour walks to 3-4 hour challenges. |
Devines Hill |
This walk involves a gradual ascent providing an insight into the hardships faced by the convicts during the construction of the Old Great North Road and the amazing achievements it took to complete the road. View towering buttresses, quarries and Hangmans Rock. Information signs detail the methods used in construction. The track commences 0.5km west of Wisemans ferry on the northern side of the Hawkesbury River. |

Finchs Line |
Finchs Line is the original ascent of the Old Great North Road, abandoned due to its steepness. Finchs line is now a beautiful 3-4 hour walk with spectacular scenery and lookouts. You can complete a circular walk of about 9km (including 2km along Wisemans Ferry Road) to ascending Devines Hill and descending along Finchs Line. |

Ten Mile Hollow |
Look for the bridge at Mill Creek on the left as you are travelling down stream. Tie dinghy up near the bridge, walk down stream on the road for 50 meters, here you will find Mill Creek Picnic area. The entrance to this walk is on the left. You will see the sign 'Ten Mile Hollow' |

is a pleasant 1.5km level walk which commences at Mill Creek Picnic Area. |

is a rugged track with steep climbs which also commences at the Mill Creek Picnic Area |
